No smoking policy

Abacus Childcare Settings does not permit staff or visitors to smoke anywhere in their settings. This includes any garden area or walkway.

Smoke free policy. (In effect since 01.07.07.)

This policy has been developed to protect the children, their parents/carers, employees and visitors to the nursery from exposure to second hand smoke and to assist compliance with the Health act 2006.

Exposure to second hand smoke increases the risk of lung cancer, heart disease and other serious illnesses, ventilation or separating smokers and non-smokers within the same airspace does not completely stop potentially dangerous exposure.

Policy

It is the policy of Abacus Childcare Settings that all our workplaces are smoke free, and all children and employees have the right to work and be cared for in a smoke free environment. This policy came in to effect on Sunday, 1st July 2007.

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the workplace, including the grounds and immediate vicinity of the buildings.

This policy applies to all employees, parents, carers, contractors and visitors to the nurseries and is effective at all times, even when the nurseries are not open for business.

Implementation

Overall responsibility for policy implementation and review rests with Carole Payne. However, all staff are obliged to adhere to and support the implementation of the policy. Existing are aware of the policy and their role in the implementation and monitoring of it. New employees will be made aware of this policy, and that it contains details of where you can obtain help if you choose to ‘GIVE UP’, at their induction.

All contractors and visitors will be made aware of the policy.

Appropriate ‘No Smoking’ signs are displayed at the entrances to, and within the buildings.
